Facts & Key Data Points

The following facts and data points reflect 2017 data reported by the VA in their 2019 Annual Report on veteran suicides.

The report cited 6,139 veteran deaths by suicide in 2017, accounting for 13.5% of all deaths by suicide among adults in the US, while constituting only 7.9% of the US adult population.

Isolation has been shown to be a risk factor for suicide.  Suicide rates are highest among those who were divorced, widowed, or never married.  Social connection is a preventive factor –  through meaningful connection, one person at a time.

According to (Junger, 2016) “…lack of social support has been found to be twice as reliable at predicting PTSD as the severity of the trauma itself.”
