About the Foundation

Each day, 22 military veterans lose their lives to suicide.

22 Saves Hockey Foundation was founded in response to end this crisis.

Our motto is 1 Goal. 22 Saves.

Taking care of our own

22 Saves Hockey Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation organized for the purpose of promoting the health and wellness of military veterans. Our vision, quite simply, is to help veterans heal their invisible wounds and return them to an improved state of health and wellness. Our mission is to save lives. How we do this is by engaging veterans in health and wellness activities – primarily through recreation – and we use it as a therapeutic mechanism to address various mental health conditions that veterans may experience. These recreation based activities add protective factors against suicide by returning veterans to a team environment – a community – that provides camaraderie with those with whom they have shared experiences.

We use grants, fundraisers, corporate and individual donations to fund programs and activities that directly contribute to the prevention of veteran suicides.

The Foundation’s core program is a free therapeutic ice hockey program for veterans at all skating levels.  The hockey program is augmented by other key program components designed to contribute to a veterans’ sense of belongingness while connecting them to community resources and providing educational workshops.

By getting veterans on the ice, we hope to be able to detect and successfully deal with signs of suicide by introducing protective factors and addressing risk factors.

We help pick up the pieces in the aftermath of a veteran suicide by providing financial assistance and other support to immediate family members.

The outreach component of our program serves to increase public awareness of the statistically significant rate of suicides among our military veterans and bring together community resources to address the various risk factors associated with suicidal behavior.
